Watch a web page or a question
Keep a question researched over time, or watch a page for changes that matter, and see only what is new.
A research watch keeps one question open and tells you only what is new. A page watch keeps an eye on one page or subject, such as a price list, and notes when something that matters changed. Both read public pages, and never pay, subscribe or sign in anywhere without your yes.
Set up a research watch
#Name the question, the sources you trust, and how often to check:
With no rhythm named, it asks you for one. The first time, it also makes a routine called research watches, at the time you named or at 06:30. That one routine checks every research watch you add later.
The first check saves what each source said. Later checks report only what changed, or a source they could not read. The report reaches you like other routine results: in Telegram on a server installed with the one-line command, otherwise in the notebook's From your routines folder. Your morning brief names up to two new findings too. To hear everything so far, ask "what did my research watch find?".
Set up a page watch
#- Ask in the chat to watch a page or a subject.
- Answer its questions. It asks at most four, once:
- What would count as better here?
- Whose word counts as authoritative?
- How often should the system look?
- What change warrants interrupting you?
Or use Settings: open Sources to watch, fill in Topic, Source address, What change would matter? and Minutes between checks, then click Watch this source.
Each page is checked as often as you set. A change that matters becomes a finding that quotes the page as it now reads. The newest finding is in your next morning brief, if you have one switched on; otherwise findings wait until you ask "what did my page watches find?". A finding expires after seven days.
If a page cannot be read three checks in a row, a notice appears under the bell in the notebook's top bar.
Pause a watch
#- One question or page: ask in the chat to pause that watch. A page watch also has Pause under Sources to watch in Settings.
- All research watches: pause the research watches routine (Pause, move or run a routine).
