Once you give Godspeed a goal, it works on it every day without being asked. The work comes from routines: jobs that run by themselves at set times, on your own clock.

The seven routines

#

Your first goal starts seven routines on the computer or server where Godspeed runs:

  1. Nightly goal research, 00:15. It reads up on each goal: who leads the field, who got there from a start like yours, and chances that close soon. It contacts nobody.
  2. Coaching talk preparation, 03:00. It prepares each coaching talk of the next day, such as your weekly check-in. It reads your goal, its research and what changed, and writes how the talk opens. It contacts nobody and sends you nothing.
  3. Daily round: choose today's work, 05:30. It picks a few steps for up to three goals and tells you the one thing that needs you, if there is one. It also lists the steps going out that evening unless you say stop (Approve, stop or allow a step).
  4. Daily round: do the work, 10:00 and 16:00. It does those steps one at a time, checks each result and tells you when something is ready, or when a step went out the way you allowed. A step that costs money or reaches other people waits for your yes (What it does alone, and what it asks first).
  5. Deadline reminders, 08:00. It mentions the dates that need it today and stays quiet on other days.
  6. Weekly check-in, Sundays at 18:00. A short coaching message about one thing that moved or got stuck, with one question. It also opens any other coaching talk you ask for.
  7. Coach reminders and habit check, every 15 minutes. It sends one reminder after a talk you did not answer, and one evening question about each habit you agreed on.

None of them runs before your first goal. If they are not listed under Settings, Routines after it, see The seven routines do not appear. You can add a morning brief, a weekly review or watches.

With a chat app connected there is one more, which no goal starts: Night chat tidy-up, at 01:30. It shortens your long chat with your assistant while the chat is quiet. That way your assistant never does it while you wait for an answer, and it sends you nothing (Pause, move or run a routine).

An example day

#

Say your goal is "run 10 km without stopping by June".

  • 00:15 The research finds a coach who writes for beginners, and a 10 km race whose sign-up closes next month.
  • 05:30 The daily round picks a training plan built on that coach's method. Signing up for the race is yours to do, so that is the one thing it tells you.
  • 10:00 It writes the training plan, with dates, and tells you it is ready to read.
  • Saturday 03:00 The coaching talk preparation reads the week and writes how Sunday's check-in opens.
  • Sunday 18:00 The weekly check-in opens with that and asks how your first runs went.

Where the results reach you

#
  • On a server installed with the one-line command: in Telegram, as they happen.
  • Everywhere else: in the notebook, under Notes, in the folder From your routines, one note per run that had something to say.
  • With a morning brief: the 05:30 line, the steps going out and your dates come only in the brief.

When your computer is off or asleep

#

Routines run on the machine where Godspeed is installed. On your own computer they run while the notebook runs:

  • Windows: while you are signed in and the PC is awake.
  • Linux: while the computer is on if you installed with sudo, otherwise while you are logged in.
  • Mac: while you are logged in and the Mac is awake.

A routine that was due while the computer was off or asleep runs once, late, when it is back. A daily routine missed for a week runs once, not seven times. A server is always on, so its routines keep their times (Your computer or a server).

What it costs

#

The routines think with your AI account. With an API key you pay per use, and the nightly research and the daily round use the most. Deadline reminders use no AI. To stop the cost, pause the routines (Pause, move or run a routine).
