Connect a backup AI

Add a second AI that steps in when your main AI fails, so your routines keep running through an outage or a used-up limit.

Applies to every installation

Godspeed uses the backup only when your main AI fails, for example during an outage or when its usage limit is reached, and only for that one request. The next request tries your main AI first again. Godspeed never adds a backup by itself. You pay the backup's company directly, as you pay for your main AI.

In Settings

#

This works on your own computer and in the notebook of a server. The choices are the same as for your main AI.

  1. In your notebook, open Settings. Your AI is near the top, and Backup AI is at its end.
  2. Choose the service under Backup AI service.
    • ChatGPT (sign in with your ChatGPT plan): click Sign in with ChatGPT. Open the page it shows on any device, type the code there and sign in. The code lasts 15 minutes.
    • OpenRouter, OpenAI or Another service: fill in Backup model and Backup key, and click Test and connect as backup.
  3. Godspeed asks the backup one short question and keeps it only if it answers. You see "Connected as your backup".

A backup is another service than your main AI, since a service that fails usually fails for all its models.

On a server, in Telegram

#

Telegram is on a server installed with the one-line command.

  1. In your Telegram chat with Godspeed, send /backupai. A short setup takes over the chat for a few minutes.
  2. Pick a service. The buttons are the ones the first setup offered for your main AI.
  3. Sign in with your ChatGPT plan, or send your API key. The setup deletes your message with the key as soon as it has read it.

The setup needs no AI, so it works even while your main AI is down. It keeps a backup only after it answered a test question. When it is done, it says "Back to normal: write to me as usual." If the setup is not finished within 20 minutes, it hands the chat back and nothing changes.

Another sign-in, on a computer

Other accounts work as for your main AI (Switch to another AI), with fallback add in place of model. On a Mac or Linux computer, run ~/.local/bin/hermes fallback add in a terminal. On Windows, run this line in PowerShell:

PowerShell
$s = "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Godspeed Mission Control State"; if (-not (Test-Path "$s\installation.json")) { $s = "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Godspeed Mission Control Full Alpha State" }
$a = Get-Content "$s\assistant.json" -Raw | ConvertFrom-Json; $env:HERMES_HOME = $a.home; & $a.executable fallback add

The first line picks your state folder. A Windows install made before 2.0.0-beta.11 keeps the older name, which ends in "Full Alpha State", also after updating.

See what it did, or remove it

#

Settings, Backup AI shows your backup and how often it answered while your main AI was failing. Check now under Your AI asks your main AI and your backup each on their own. When your main AI has been failing for more than an hour while the backup does the work, Godspeed tells you once.

To remove the backup, click Remove the backup in Settings, or send /backupai and tap Remove it.
