The video add-on, mc-video, runs on your own computer, next to Godspeed Mission Control. Your videos stay there, and the captions are heard by a speech model on that computer.

Install it

#

You need Node.js 22 or newer and about 1.5 GB of free disk space. The add-on is free and needs no account.

  1. Open a terminal. On Windows, open Command Prompt from the Start menu.

  2. Run node -v. If the number starts below 22, or the command is not found, install the current version from nodejs.org and open a new terminal.

  3. Run the setup:

    Terminal
    npx --yes github:MichaelZelbel/mc-video setup

It offers to install ffmpeg and uv if they are missing, and asks first.

The setup also puts the video skills in your mission control's skills folder, so Godspeed knows how to use the add-on. They are captions and a vertical cut (video-finishing), the older stand-alone way to burn captions (video-captions). There are also hooks for the first sentence or two you say on camera (video-hooks). Last come designed captions behind the speaker (embedded-captions) and the animation skills (Skills that come with it). It leaves alone any skill of that name you wrote yourself.

At the end it captions an 8-second sample clip, renders a 3-second title card, and tells you where to watch both. If it cannot find your mission control folder, add the folder to the line: --godspeed "%USERPROFILE%\godspeed-v2" on Windows, --godspeed ~/godspeed-v2 on a Mac or Linux.

Check that it works

#
Terminal
mc-video check

Every line after the first starts with ok.

Use it

#

Ask Godspeed in the chat and give the full path to your clip, for example: "Caption C:\Users\Sam\Videos\talk.mp4 and make a vertical version for Reels." It runs the add-on for you and tells you where the new files are.

To run it yourself, give the command the full path to your clip in a terminal. For captions:

Terminal
mc-video captions "C:\Users\Sam\Videos\talk.mp4"

For a vertical version with captions:

Terminal
mc-video vertical "C:\Users\Sam\Videos\talk.mp4" --captions

To copy a path, right-click the file and choose Copy as path in File Explorer. In the Finder, right-click it, hold Option and choose Copy as Pathname.

You get talk.captioned.mp4 or talk.vertical.captioned.mp4 next to the original. The vertical cut keeps only the middle of a wide picture, so watch the first seconds before you post. The add-on never changes your original and never posts anything.

To fix a misheard word, correct it in talk.words.json next to the clip and run the same command again.

To change the caption look, ask Godspeed, or edit video/caption-style.json in your mission control folder.

Update or remove it

#

To update, run the setup line again. It keeps your caption look.

The add-on has no uninstall command. To remove it, delete what it added:

  • the .mc-video folder in your home folder
  • the mc-video command files in .local/bin in your home folder
  • video/caption-style.json in your mission control folder
  • the video skills in your mission control's skills folder, if you no longer want them
  • the speech model, about 460 MB, in .cache/huggingface in your home folder
  • the browser it draws title cards with, about 260 MB, in .cache/hyperframes in your home folder
