# Uninstall Godspeed Mission Control

Canonical: https://godspeedmissioncontrol.com/guide/uninstall

Your mission control folder is your data, and only the steps that say so delete it. First [copy a backup off the machine](/guide/back-up#keep-a-copy-somewhere-else).

## On Windows

1. In the Start menu, open **Godspeed Mission Control** and click **Uninstall Godspeed Mission Control**.
2. Windows asks "Remove Godspeed Mission Control?". Click **Yes**.

The notebook's program, Hermes, the commands it added, its daily job, its Startup entry and its Start menu entries are gone. Your mission control folder, your notebook's notes, photos and files, and your conversations with your assistant stay. To delete them too, [remove what stays](#what-stays-on-windows).

## On a Mac or Linux computer

1. Open a terminal and run:

   ```bash
   mc-uninstall
   ```

   If it says `command not found`, run this instead:

   ```bash
   curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MichaelZelbel/godspeed-mission-control/beta/tools/mc-uninstall | sh
   ```

2. It asks "Remove the programs? (y/n) [n]". Type `y` and press Enter. On Linux, type your password if it asks.
3. It lists what it removed and ends with "Godspeed Mission Control's programs are removed from this computer." If it then names commands that need the administrator's rights, run them, or ask whoever runs the computer.

The notebook's background service, the commands it added, its scheduled jobs and this computer's settings in `~/.godspeed` are gone. On a server without Docker, so is its web address, and with it the addresses of add-ons that used it. Their files in `/etc/caddy/godspeed-addons/` stay until you remove the add-ons. Your mission control folder and your notebook's notes, photos and files stay. To delete them too, [remove what stays](#what-stays-on-a-mac-or-linux), then delete `~/godspeed-v2`.

## On a server

On the one-line server, [copy your backups off](/guide/back-up#back-up-a-server) first. Then, as root:

```bash
cd /opt/godspeed-mission-control && docker compose down
```

This keeps your data, and the install line brings it back. To delete everything for good:

```bash
docker compose down -v && cd / && rm -rf /opt/godspeed-mission-control && docker image rm $(docker image ls -q ghcr.io/michaelzelbel/godspeed-mission-control)
```

Remove its add-on model command too, if this installer created it:

```bash
if grep -qx '# Godspeed Docker model command' /usr/local/bin/godspeed-model 2>/dev/null &&
   grep -qx 'install=/opt/godspeed-mission-control' /usr/local/bin/godspeed-model; then
  rm /usr/local/bin/godspeed-model
fi
```

To stop paying, cancel the server with your hosting company.

## Remove what stays

### What stays on Windows

> [!WARNING]
> The first folder in step 1 holds your notebook's notes, photos and files and your conversations with your assistant.

1. Delete `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Godspeed Mission Control State` and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Godspeed`. If you installed before 2.0.0-beta.11, the first one is called `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Godspeed Mission Control Full Alpha State`, also after updating.
2. Delete `%USERPROFILE%\.godspeed`, this PC's Godspeed settings. If you locked keys in your mission control, it also holds the key that opens them: keep a copy if you will install again.
3. Delete your mission control folder, usually `%USERPROFILE%\godspeed-v2`.

### What stays on a Mac or Linux

`mc-uninstall` leaves Hermes, the program that runs your assistant, since other programs may use it. If nothing else does, remove it. On Linux, also delete `~/.local/share/uv` unless you use `uv`.

```bash
rm -rf ~/.hermes ~/.local/bin/hermes ~/.local/bin/hermes-agent ~/.local/bin/hermes-acp
```

It also keeps `~/.godspeed/age-key.txt`, if there is one: it opens the passwords your mission control folder keeps. Delete it together with the folder.

### Everywhere

Git and Node.js stay, and on a Mac or Linux also `gh`, GitHub's command. Remove them only if nothing else uses them. Your AI key, a Gmail app password, your private GitHub repository and your Telegram bot stay until you delete them where you made them.

## If the previous edition is on the same computer

On Windows, uninstall from the Start menu, not **Settings**, **Apps**. The uninstaller leaves the commands and the daily job the two editions share. Keep `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Godspeed` and `%USERPROFILE%\.godspeed`. On a Mac or Linux, `mc-uninstall` also removes the commands and scheduled jobs the previous edition uses; run the previous edition's installer again afterwards to bring them back.
