# Track what you eat

Canonical: https://godspeedmissioncontrol.com/guide/track-food

## Track a meal

1. Say what you ate, starting with "track":

   ```text
   track breakfast, two eggs and a slice of rye bread
   ```

   The first time, it asks "Start a food tracker?" and says the numbers are estimates. If you have or had an eating disorder, say so: it then shows totals only when you ask and never sets a target.

2. Answer `yes`. You see a reply such as:

   ```text
   Tracked: eggs 120 g (assumed), rye bread 50 g (assumed): 271 kcal, 20 g protein.
   ```

Without a weight, it uses a usual one and marks it "assumed". For a pack, bowl or glass, it asks the size once and remembers it.

## More you can say

- `track lunch, ...`, `track dinner, ...` or `track snack, ...`
- `remember this as my usual lunch`, then later `track usual lunch`
- `the eggs were three`, `the rice was 150 g` or `delete the eggs`
- `what did I eat today?`
- `set my food target`, which asks for anything it needs
- `stop showing calories` and `show calories again`
- A product by brand and name, or barcode: `track 20 g of 4008400401621`

Your entries are a table on the **Trackers** shelf in **Collections**.

## Where the numbers come from

- **BLS 4.0**, a table of everyday foods from the Max Rubner-Institut, a German research institute. Godspeed downloads it once, then works offline.
- **Open Food Facts**, a free online product database, for barcodes and branded products.

Your notebook names both, with their licences, under **Settings**, **About**.

Calories and protein never come from the AI's guess.

## What it never does

- Remind you to track.
- Set or talk about a target for anyone under 19, pregnant, breastfeeding, or with an eating disorder now or in the past.
