# Approve, stop or allow a step

Canonical: https://godspeedmissioncontrol.com/guide/steps

A step is one piece of work for a goal. The [daily round](/guide/daily-work), a routine that runs at 05:30, picks each day's steps. A step that reaches other people or costs money waits for your yes ([What it does alone, and what it asks first](/guide/approvals)).

## Answer the day's list

Steps that need your yes come once a day as one numbered list, a sentence per step. It arrives each morning: in Telegram on a server installed with the one-line command, otherwise as a note in the notebook's **From your routines** folder. With a [morning brief](/guide/morning-brief) switched on, it is in the brief.

Reply in the notebook's chat, or in Telegram on a server, and say which list you are answering:

```text
today's list: ship all
```

```text
today's list: 1 and 3
```

The first lets every step go ahead, the second only lines 1 and 3. A line you leave unanswered expires after seven days and is not asked again.

## Stop a step before it goes out

Steps of a kind you allowed (below) go out at a set time unless you stop them. The morning message lists them under "Going out unless you say stop". That is your [morning brief](/guide/morning-brief) when it is on. Otherwise it is the daily round's 05:30 message, in Telegram on a server or as a note in **From your routines**.

- Reply `stop` to keep back every step of the day.
- Reply `stop 2` to keep back only line 2.

A sent message cannot be called back, but a change to your own page or file can be put back: ask for it.

## Allow one kind of step

Some steps come back again and again, such as answering comments under your videos. You can allow one kind once, for one goal, with a limit per week.

1. Wait for the question. About once a week per goal, the day's list may ask, for example: "May I answer comments under your YouTube videos without asking each time? I would send at most ten a week and you see each one the morning before."
2. Answer in your own words. Your answer becomes the permission.

From then on, a step of that kind shows in the morning message. It goes out at 18:00 UTC (world time) unless you stop it, and the message gives that time on your own clock. A step that was never shown waits for the next morning, so you always see it before it goes.

A kind that reaches nobody, such as fixing typos on your own blog, can be allowed to go ahead alone.

After a step of a kind you allowed went out, the daily round tells you where its results reach you: "Done, as you allowed: ...". With a morning brief on, the brief also lists those that went ahead alone the next day, under "Done yesterday without asking".

Money, sign-ups, bookings, cancellations and a first message to someone new can never be allowed this way.

On your own computer, `mc-goals allow` does the same from a terminal ([Terminal commands](/guide/terminal-commands)).
