# Your computer or a server

Canonical: https://godspeedmissioncontrol.com/guide/choose-an-installation

Godspeed does its daily work on the machine where you install it. So the question is: is that machine on when the work is due?

## On your own computer

- It costs nothing beyond your AI account.
- It works while the computer is on and awake.
- Its results wait for you as notes in the notebook, the web page where you talk to it.
- A job that was due while the computer was off runs once, late, when it is back. Research due at 00:15 may then happen during your day.

Good for trying it, and for anyone whose computer is on most of the day.

## On a server

A server is a Linux computer you rent from a hosting company for a monthly fee. It stays on day and night.

- Every job runs at its time, including the research at night.
- It writes to you in Telegram on your phone, and you can write back from anywhere.
- You open your notebook from any browser, with your username and password.

Good if you want it to work while you sleep and to reach you on your phone.

## Both

You can start on your computer and add a server later, or use two computers. They share one mission control through a private GitHub repository, an online folder only you can see. One machine, the one you choose in **Settings**, runs the daily work, so nothing happens twice. [Use it on two computers, or add a server](/guide/several-devices) shows how.

## Install
